Design Notes
Use Kelvin connections directly at the shunt resistor terminals for the IN+ and IN- traces. Any parasitic resistance in series with the sense lines adds directly to the measured shunt voltage and degrades the ±50 uV offset advantage. Keep the sense traces symmetric and route them away from switching nodes.
Place a 0.1 uF ceramic decoupling capacitor close to the VS pin (2.7 V to 5.5 V). The device draws only 310 uA typical, but I2C pull-ups and the alert output require a stable supply. The measured common-mode rail (up to 85 V) is independent of VS, so a 3.3 V logic supply can monitor high-voltage buses directly.
Do not exceed the ±163.84 mV full-scale differential input at the highest gain setting, or measurements will clip. Select the shunt so maximum load current produces a differential voltage within range while preserving resolution - for example, a 2 mOhm shunt gives 164 mV at 82 A, right at full scale. Also configure I2C pull-up values (typically 2.2k to 10k) for the bus speed used.
